Testing Spotlight: Ingress Testing

Home to over 22 test chambers, Austin Reliability Labs (ARL) is recognized as one of the top product reliability labs in the country. We offer a unique balance of testing, consulting and on-site staffing services. Our expert team will help evaluate your qualification and reliability test plan to make sure the tests you’re running are the best for your unique product and its uses.

At ARL, we offer Ingress Protection (IP) Testing. “Ingress” is the infiltration of water, dust and foreign objects. Ingress protection testing can be used to verify that your part or product can withstand harsh environmental conditions it may encounter. IP ratings help determine degrees of protection and the potential harmful effects that could occur within the surroundings of the product. Items, such as dust-proof enclosures and surface coatings, are subjected to various types of airborne contaminants, including fibrous dusts, in our chambers.

The video below showcases our water and dust ingress testing capabilities. From water droplet protection to withstanding powerful water jets, water ingress testing can be used to evaluate the level of protection against the intrusion of water. Additionally, testing water resistance capabilities allows for a more detailed product safety testing result.

If your product will be facing any outside elements, it’s important to test the ingress of dust as well. If solid particles were to enter in the seams, it may interfere with the functioning elements of your product and decrease the lifespan. Dust buildup can occur in any environment, but IP testing will help to determine any weak seals to ensure product reliability.

Whether you need to test ingress of dust or water for your products and parts, ARL provides the environmental testing you need.
